About Marcellina

Hello fellow foodies and welcome to Marcellina in Cucina!

Who am I?
My name is Marcella –  pronounced with a European “c”. I was named after my paternal grandmother, Marcellina and that’s what dad liked to call me. Hence the blog name.

Many years ago my Italian mum and dad came to live in tropical north Queensland, Australia. You can find their story here and here.  We had a very traditional Italian family life, growing and producing most of our food. As a child, many nights were spent around the kitchen table shelling beans or preparing rosella’s for jam. Every year we would spend a day bottling home grown tomatoes which would last us until the next tomato season.

I married a local sugar cane farmer and we have two wonderful grown children. Still living on a farm, we have plenty of space to grow vegetables and have lots of fruit trees. Mango, avocado, mulberry, citrus and macadamia trees bear abundantly in our climate. Occasionally, I still bottle my own tomatoes!

I believe in…
eating what you love and allowing your body to guide you. I ban no foods! I love vibrant salads, rich slow braises and wonderful pastas. The good foods of the world are too delicious to forego. Eat that cake, enjoy the tiramisu and dunk that cookie into your coffee. Cooking doesn’t have to be hard but should always be fun. Everyone can master a couple of recipes.

What are you going to find here at Marcellina in Cucina?
Bake and cook like an Italian, be inspired by the good produce around you, most of all create your dishes with love for those you are feeding. That’s the Italian in you!
Here you will find simply good recipes for everyday dinners, lots of  baking recipes and a little glimpse into the tropics and my Italian heritage. I’ll find the good recipes, the ones that have worked for me. And if it’s not working for you, contact me…we will figure it out together.

What won’t you find here?
I will make no apologies that you won’t find recipes dedicated to the latest fads that usually include those hard-to-find, more-expensive-than-gold ingredients. Unashamedly, I do not follow trends.

I hope you will stay awhile to explore and come back again and again.
